Actors Studio 66 Announces
Gruesome Playground Injuries by Rajiv Joseph
Albuquerque's Actors Studio 66 (AS66), presents Gruesome Playground Injuries written by Rajiv Joseph. This is the first show of AS66’s Third Season. The play is directed by Stephanie Grilo and the cast includes Jeff Jung who will portray Doug and Robyn Casper, as Kayleen. Understudies Joe Levy (Caldwell, in 2022-23 Season’s Caldwell’s Bomb) and Colleen Sample will portray Kayleen. The play has Lighting designed by Madison Thomas and Costume Design by Abigail Ropp. Linda Wilson is the Scenic Designer.
Gruesome Playground Injuries is written by American playwright and screenwriter Rajiv Joseph, a graduate of Miami University’s Creative Writing program. He went on to receive his MFA in Playwriting from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. A finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize in Drama, he is a two-time Obie Award Winner for Best New American Play.

Director Stephanie Grilo says of the play “Sometimes people in our lives are like that old t-shirt we will never get rid of - even if it doesn’t fit anymore. Even if it has holes and rips and stains. It lasts with us. If you take away anything from this play, I hope that at least one of those things is the memory of your old t-shirt person who’s tucked away in your mental closet somewhere. They may have scarred you, but also healed you. And who knows? Maybe you’ll call them up or DM them to see where life has taken them.”

Gruesome Playground Injuries opens Friday, September 29th, 2023 (with a Preview performance on September 28th), and runs through October 15th. The Pay-What-You-Will performance is Thursday, October 5th and the Understudy performance is Thursday, October 12th. The theater’s Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening shows are performed at 7:30pm and Sunday matinees are at 2pm.

All shows are performed at the Black Cat Theatre space at 3011-13 Monte Vista Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106. Seating is general admission and tickets are $20.
